Motolleros en El Camino de Cielo

First ride of 2014 was on the ridge high above Santa Barbara with Ed and son Charlie.   Trail and trail conditions were not all that great, but the scenery is unbelievable with the Pacific Ocean constantly by your side.   Considering Chuck’s experience level he did awesome on the rocky chunky trail aboard the CR250, completing nearly 35 miles.   It was a great way to spend time with the Paulsen boys and start the new year.   Post ride I treated myself to an elk dinner at Cold Spring Tavern.

Christmas on the Kern – Ride Day 2

The group was reduced to a Mag 4 on day 2.  So we headed down the canyon to hit Remington Ridge – Mill Creek Trail loop.  Again gorgeous weather and epic single track. Mill Creek was especially tasty with wet, brown dirt up in the pines.  Choice.

Christmas on the Kern – Ride Day 1

A bit more than a Mag 5, more like a Mag 9, completed a glorious loop in unseasonably warm weather that included all the classics: Keyesville classic to Kern River Trail, up towards Stone Henge, connected to Baja Fence to the Playground, up to Piston Hill, cut across Brown’s Mill, up It’s Fantastic (Mud Hen), up Just Outstanding.   Lunch break.  Back down Just Outstanding, Manzanita Trail, Wagy Ridge, down Dutch Flat and back to Ed & Potter’s family compound in Keyesville.  Even though we had more than five, as the saying goes, there was “not too much strain on everyone’s good nature.”

Christmas on the Kern

The Mag 5 made a Christmas time return to the Kern.  A real ride and imbibe sort of trip.  First stop Kern River Brewery.  Lodging at the Kern Lodge in a deluxe cabin-suite, Christmas tree included.  We resurected The Chalice as well.
